The rugged Southern Coast of the South Island, New Zealand provides some great walking and amazing 'must see' locations. Over our 7 day hiking holiday we visit Milford Sound before the crowds arrive, providing an awesome optional cruise on the sound beneath the huge walls of Mitre Peak.
Lesser known hikes off the Milford Road provide us the quietness of this unique area as we then head south to Stewart Island. This island has a total of 29kms of roading around the tiny township of Oban making it an ideal place of discovery and exploration - possibly sighting a NZ kiwi in the wild. Across on the Catlins coast we have two days of exploring and hikes through rugged native forests and dramatic seascapes. Our way home back to Queenstown is via the rolling hills of Central Otago which provides a contrasting walking environment steeped in goldmining history.
- Experience the slendour of Milford Sound before the crowds
- Hike some of the lesser known valleys of Fiordland with their spectacular viewpoints and towering rocky walls
- Explore Stewart Island, NZ's newest national park and one of the last remaining wilderness areas
- Discover the small communities and rugged coast of the Catlin region
- Learn of Otago's rich gold mining history that led to the settlement of Central Otago
- Be part of a small group exploration with numerous points of interpretation
"Thanks again guys for showcasing all of the South Island's glories...Your passion for and knowledge of New Zealand is inspiring . It's a truly magnificent country and I will be leaving a big piece of my heart here tomorrow when I depart..but no fear, I'll be back to collect it at a later date!" Sheena Walsh, UK
