Kyushu’s historical, geographical and economic treasures make for a perfect cycling destination for those seeking both cultural and natural attractions. Located in the southern part of Japan, Kyushu is the third largest island known for being a hot spot of steaming hot springs. Onsen (a Japanese word for hot springs) provides great opportunities to meet friendly locals and sooth muscles after some challenging rides. This 11 day itinerary explores some national parks covering Japan’s largest volcano Mount Aso and its astonishing caldera, Amakusa’s tranquil coastlines, as well as the World Heritage Yakushima Island. Kumamoto offers a chance to glimpse into a modern city life and a feudal Japan at its landmark Kumamoto Castle. We will also guide you through some tea growing areas and unique sand bathing sites of southern Kagoshima, often claimed as an experience of a lifetime! Our tours are timed to coincide with the best of the spring and autumn weather to make the most of your cycling holiday in Japan.
We highly recommend our 2 nights extension option in Kyoto, including a day cycling through a bamboo forest, rock garden, Zen temple and the Golden Pavilion.
"Loved the variety of scenery, biking terrain and lounging in the onsen after a great day of riding then dining sumptuously on beautifully presented food. Life does not get better than this!" Jeanne Bright, NZ, Kyushu Cycle Tour May 2010
